This online course is one of the components required to obtain an AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training, and covers maritime security policy and responsibilities, threat identification, recognition and response, ship security actions and emergency preparedness. It is mandatory for all seafarers with AMSA certificates to hold Security Awareness endorsement Security Awareness Training (SAT). STCW Code Section A-VI/6 para 4.

This course is designed for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board a ship which is required to comply with the provisions of the ISPS Code. Security Awareness Training (SAT) is required under International amendments, and was made mandatory from 1st January 2014. This course complies with Code Section A-VI/6 para 4, Table A-VI/1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 of STCW 78 as amended, and is approved by AMSA. This course is one of the components required to obtain an AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training (CoST), which is the minimum mandatory qualification required to serve on board vessels in international waters.
Topics covered include Maritime Security Policy; Security Responsibilities; Threat identification, recognition and response; Ship Security actions; and Emergency preparedness, drill and exercise.
There are no entry requirements for this course.
It is highly recommended that students are aged 16 or older by the course commencement date.
This unit is to be completed online through Connect Learning Management System. Students will have 4 weeks from enrolment date to complete online unit.
It is recommended that students have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
