Certificate of Safety Training (CoST) Continued Competence Refresher Training

This course covers the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses, Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.

Covers relevant components of:

• Personal Survival Techniques – STCW Table A-VI/1-1.
• Fire Prevention or Fire Fighting – STCW Table A-VI/1-2.

Note: All continued competence refresher courses are valid for up to 5 years and may be used once for revalidation purposes

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

• AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training (CoST)
• Minimum age requirement is 16 years.

As this course involves use of breathing apparatus, extinguishing fires, confined spaces and other strenuous activities, you will be required to complete a medical declaration prior to commencing training. The result of which may, in some circumstances, preclude you from completing the fire component.

Delivery Method

Assessment procedures

Assessment will include written tests and practical demonstration of skills.

Resources required

You will need to bring the following:

• Evidence of your Certificate of Safety Training
• Wear comfortable clothing and closed in shoes (runners are suitable) 
• Towel and swimmers
• Spare change of under garments
• Thick work socks (no anklet socks)
• Sunhat
• Water bottle
• Lunch and snacks as you require
